OUR STORY — BORN IN THE HIGHLANDS OF FOUTA DJALLON
Water. Mountains. Wild Flora. Tradition.
Four threads. One extraordinary place.
BORN IN THE HIGHLANDS OF FOUTA DJALLON
Fouta Djallon Mountain Raw Honey begins in one of West Africa’s most remarkable landscapes.
Rising across the heart of Guinea, Fouta Djallon is a vast region of high plateaus, green valleys, mountains, waterfalls, forests, streams, and wild vegetation. Often called the “Water Tower of West Africa,” its highlands give rise to many of the great rivers that sustain communities across the region, including important headwaters of the Senegal, Gambia, and Niger river systems. Some of its plateaus rise between roughly 500 and 1,500 meters above sea level, and the region receives abundant seasonal rainfall.
Our honey is harvested from rural mountain landscapes away from heavy industry and intensive commercial agriculture.

FOUR THREADS OF FOUTA DJALLON
Seasonal rains, waterfalls, and flowing rivers connect the highlands to communities far beyond Guinea. Water is part of the region’s living identity.
High plateaus, mountains, and green valleys create a varied landscape. Our honey carries a connection to these rural mountain places.
Flowering plants, forests, and wild vegetation offer bees a diversity of forage. This mountain environment helps create naturally multifloral honey with character connected to the landscape.
Generations of people have made their homes in Fouta Djallon. Local beekeepers and the honey they harvest are part of that continuing connection.
THE HONEY WE BRING TO YOUR TABLE
This rich mountain environment creates a natural home for bees. Across the countryside, bees forage among diverse flowering plants and wild vegetation, gathering nectar throughout the landscape. The result is naturally multifloral honey whose character reflects the place from which it comes — the varied flora of the Fouta Djallon highlands, rather than a single cultivated crop.
Our honey is harvested in this traditional rural environment and brought to you as close as possible to the way the bees produced it: raw, unheated, unfiltered, and unprocessed. We believe honey should retain the aroma, color, texture, and natural character of its origin.
A HERITAGE THAT CONTINUES
Fouta Djallon is more than a beautiful landscape. It is a region with a deep cultural and intellectual history. From the eighteenth century, Fouta Djallon developed into an influential Islamic state governed by leaders known as Almamis, with Timbo serving as its political center and important centers of scholarship spread throughout the highlands.
For generations, the people of the region have valued the products of their land and exchanged gifts as expressions of friendship, hospitality, and respect.
